Windows XP SP3 Release Candidate 及白皮书已经开放下载
微软已经于昨天（12 月 3 日）放出了 Windows XP SP3 Release Candidate 及一份白皮书《Overview of Windows XP SP3》，大小为 336MB，目前只有 32 位英文版。

这份白皮书向我们讲述了 Windows XP SP3 的面向对象、新增加的一些功能以及部署方式。与早期版本的 Windows XP Service Pack 一样，Windows XP SP3 是累积性的更新，它包含此前发布的 SP1、SP2 及其它所有的零散更新，任何早期版本的 Windows XP 用户都可以直接升级至 SP3，而不必重复安装 SP1、SP2。Windows XP SP3 适用于 Windows XP 的所有发行版本，包括 Home、Professional 以及 Media Center Edition、Tablet PC Edition。
但是，Windows XP SP3 并没有整合一些关键组件的新版本，例如很多人期望整合进 SP3 的 IE 7。我们依然必须手动为 Windows XP 安装 IE 7。这种做法与早期版本的 Windows 2000 如出一辙。Windows 2000 内置的 IE 版本是 IE 5，Windows 2000 Service Pack 没有整合版本更高的 IE 6，在 Windows 2000 中也必须单独安装 IE 6 才行。但是，Windows XP SP3 却分别为 IE 6 及 IE 7 准备了相应的安全更新，SP3 安装程序将根据我们的 Windows XP 已安装的 IE 版本进行相应的更新。假如我们的 Windows XP 依然运行 IE 6，SP3 安装程序就会安装适用于 IE 6 的更新（IE 6 也将升级为 IE 6 SP3 版本）；假如我们的 Windows XP 已经安装了 IE 7，SP3 安装程序就会安装适用于 IE 7 的更新。
另外根据白皮书的描述，Windows XP SP3 将会包含以下组件的更新版本：MMC 3.0、MSXML 6.0、Windows Installer 3.1.4000.2435 v2、Background Intelligent Transfer Service（BITS）2.5、IPsec Simple Policy Update for Windows XP、Digital Identity Management Service（DIMS）、Peer Name Resolution Protocol（PNRP）2.1、Wi-Fi Protected Access（WPA）2。
除此之外，Windows XP SP3 还将增加一些新的功能，其中包括 Windows Vista/Server 2008 的一些特性：“Black Hole”Router Detection（黑洞路由探测）、Network Access Protection（网络访问保护）、Descriptive Security Options User Interface（安全选项详细描述）、Enhanced Security for Administrator and Service Policy Entries（管理员和服务策略入口安全增强）、Microsoft Kernel Mode Cryptographic Module（内核模式加密算法模块）、Windows Product Activation（改进型的 Windows 产品激活机制）。
